What a great summer! We were unbelievably pleased with our first year of Brethren Academy. For the summer of 2016, we welcomed 37 high school students for Brethren Academy from Ohio, Indiana, Virginia, Florida, and Ontario, Canada.
It was pleasantly surprised to see how God moved to form significant relationships between young leaders from all over these areas.
Students received clarity in their calling, learned more about their faith heritage, grew spiritually, and then served as spiritual leaders among their peers the following week at Engage Conference.
Our theme this year was "Like My Father Before Me" (Jn 5:19).
We learned a ton about what the faith of our ancestors who have gone before us in the Brethren movement and how that heritage can shape our responses to the world today. However, we also wrestled with what it means to live like Jesus in simple obedience to the voice of our Heavenly Father who goes before us (Jn 5:19).
In all of this, we discovered that God is much more concerned with the kind of person you are becoming than the kinds of tasks you will perform.
Will you be driven and successful by the world's standards? Or will you be fruitful and attentive to the guidance of the Holy Spirit? May we always choose the latter, putting Christ at the center and growing together in simplicity, peace, and an active faith.
Can't wait to see what God has in store next summer!
